I have worked in accounting for six years now where I joined straight from completing my A levels (Maths, Chemistry and Psychology). I always knew I never wanted to go to university and just wanted to get stuck in and start working. That’s when I knew an apprenticeship was the best option for me.
I completed work experience in financial advising, my dad owned his own business and I would help him keep updated with all his paperwork for his accountants. It was when I was doing this that I realised accountancy is what I wanted to do for a job.
I completed AAT (Association of Taxation Technicians) level 2 in 2019 and then went on to complete the certificate level in ICAEW, ( a globally-recognised qualification in finance, accounting and business) which led me onto the ACA (Associate Chartered Accountant) qualification, where I passed my final exam and became a chartered accountant in September 2023.
My current role at Sidaways is as a client services manager, where I am the pod leader for two trainees, Tom and Ollie. My day-to-day consists of preparing and reviewing financial accounts and tax returns, as well as reviewing and filing VAT returns and payrolls, prepared by Ollie and Tom.
In June 2023, myself and my boyfriend bought our first house. We thought it would be a good idea to buy a house that needed a lot of work. This is where we spent over 6 months renovating the house before we finally moved in. I like to think I am quite a good painter and decorator now, alongside being an accountant!
