Further to the announcements at the weekend I summarise the changes announced for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) below:

Full current details can be found here (along with other support measures) which are well worth a read: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/furlough-scheme-extended-and-further-economic-support-announced

  • Originally the CJRS was due to end 31.10.20
  • This has now been extended to 30.11.20
  • The Job Support Scheme that was due to start 01.11.20 has been postponed until CJRS has ended
  • Employers and/or employees do not need to have used the scheme before to be eligible to claim from 01.11.20
  • Employers can claim back 80% of employees’ pay for hours not worked – up to a pro-rated cap of £2,500 per month
  • Employers can top this up to 100% if they wish
  • Employers will still have to fund employers NI & pension contributions
  • Full or flexible furloughing is allowed
  • Employers are eligible if they have a UK bank account and UK PAYE schemes
  • Employees need to have been on an RTI submission to HMRC by 23:59 hours on 30th October 2020
  • More details, including when the first claims can be made, will be available in due course
