In what seems like a daily update I set out below a summary of Rishi’s announcements yesterday with regards to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS):

  • CJRS extended until 31.03.21
  • Employees to get 80% pay for hours not worked
  • Employers are able to claim the 80% back – this will be reviewed in January to see if it is appropriate for employers to increase their contributions
  • Employers will still need to fund employer national insurance and pension contributions
  • Usual caps of £2,500 per month pro-rata still apply
  • Still on a flexi-furlough basis
  • Employers still need to have written agreements with the employees for both full and flexi-furlough. Where these are backdated for periods from 01.11.20 onwards the agreements need to be in place by 13.11.20
  • All records and agreements should be kept for 5 years
  • Claims open 8am 11th November 2020
  • Employees must have been on an RTI submission prior to 23:59 30th October 2020
  • There will be slightly different calculations for employees that are now eligible for furlough that weren’t eligible before
  • HMRC will publish details of employers who make claims from December onwards under the extended scheme
  • Detailed guidance to be published next week on Tuesday 10th November 2020
  • Job Support Scheme is postponed

Job Retention Bonus

This will no longer be paid in February – it will instead be redeployed as and when they decide to cease the furlough scheme again.
